Unboxing video recording

Ordered online, received the package — opened it to find missing items, wrong products, or broken goods? An unboxing video is your only evidence for a refund.

Why must you record unboxing videos?

Marketplaces require it

When filing a "missing items" or "damaged goods" dispute, marketplaces require video of opening the package while it is still sealed. No video = claim denied.

Prove damage existed on arrival

Video shows the package was still sealed but the product inside was already damaged. This is evidence of seller or shipping fault.

Clear responsibility assignment

Seller has packing video, buyer has unboxing video. Comparing both determines exactly where the issue occurred: packing, shipping, or receiving.

How to record a proper unboxing video

Follow these 6 steps correctly and your marketplace dispute will be processed quickly and successfully.

Step 1: Start recording before opening

Set up your phone or camera on a fixed position. Start recording while the package is still fully sealed. Show the shipping label clearly.

Step 2: Record the tracking number clearly

Zoom into the tracking number, recipient name, and shop name. This proves you are opening the correct disputed package.

Step 3: Open package continuously without stopping

Use a box cutter to cut the tape, open the lid. DO NOT stop recording or cut the video. Any interruption raises suspicion.

Step 4: Remove and count each item

Take each product out of the box and place before the camera. Count quantities and check condition. If the order has 3 items but only 2 are inside — the video has captured it.

Step 5: Close-up on defective items (if any)

If a product is cracked, scratched, or wrong variant — zoom in. Compare with the product listing on the marketplace app.

Step 6: End recording and save

Place all products, box, and packaging materials in frame, then stop recording. Save the video and DO NOT delete until the dispute is resolved.

Sellers: How unboxing videos affect you

When buyer has unboxing video, seller has no packing video

  • x Marketplace defaults to trusting the buyer
  • x Seller refunds money + loses product
  • x High dispute rate damages shop ranking

When both sides have video (ASCAM + buyer)

  • Compare videos to determine which stage caused the issue
  • If shipping caused damage — carrier compensates, seller not penalized
  • Transparent and fair resolution for both parties
